🏙️ Rethinking the Town Centre: It’s About More Than Just Shops
Town Centre Champion – Nic Till & Riverhead Coffee
In the heart of Grimsby, along Victoria Street, sits a café that has become part of the town’s fabric — a warm, welcoming space where conversations flow as easily as the coffee. This month, we’re celebrating Nic Till and her team at Riverhead Coffee as our Town Centre Champion.
A Vision Born from Community
Nic’s story began far from Grimsby. Inspired by her time living in New Zealand, she fell in love with café culture — places where people gathered, talked, and felt a sense of belonging. When she returned home, she wanted to bring that same spirit here.
In 2015, she opened Riverhead Coffee in Grimsby town centre. Her goal was simple: to serve exceptional coffee and fresh, homemade food in a setting that made everyone feel welcome — like visiting a friend’s home.
“Opening your café as you would welcome someone into your home — that’s how I see Riverhead.”
– Nic Till
Over the past decade, Riverhead Coffee has grown into much more than a café. It’s become a meeting point for the community — a place where friends catch up, businesses connect, students study, and visitors experience genuine Grimsby hospitality.
More Than Coffee – Connection, Support & Local Pride
Nic’s philosophy is rooted in community first. From day one, she’s worked to support other local independents — sourcing ingredients and products locally, collaborating with nearby traders, and championing initiatives like Totally Locally North East Lincolnshire, which encourages businesses to work together rather than compete.
She’s passionate about keeping money in the local economy and making sure Grimsby’s town centre thrives through cooperation, creativity, and care.
Riverhead Coffee has also become a safe and inclusive space — welcoming everyone, from parents with prams to remote workers, artists, and older residents who enjoy a chat over coffee and cake.
A Decade of Excellence – and Well-Earned Recognition
Nic’s commitment to quality and community hasn’t gone unnoticed. Riverhead Coffee has been recognised across Lincolnshire and beyond for its outstanding service, hospitality, and positive impact.

Ten Years On – A Celebration of Community
This month, Riverhead Coffee celebrates an incredible 10 years in the town centre, and Nic is marking the milestone with a special celebration day — inviting everyone who’s supported them along the way to come together for great food, delicious cakes, and, of course, coffee.
It’s her way of saying thank you — to the loyal customers who have kept the café thriving, to the local businesses she’s partnered with, and to her dedicated team who have poured their passion into every cup.
You are invited to celebrate with Nic and the team.
Why Nic Till Is Our Town Centre Champion
For the past decade, Nic has shown what community-led business truly looks like. She’s helped shape a town centre that’s about more than shopping — it’s about belonging.
Through Riverhead Coffee, she’s created a space that fosters connection, champions local collaboration, and brings genuine warmth to the heart of Grimsby.
Nic Till and Riverhead Coffee are proof that independent businesses aren’t just part of the town centre — they are the heart of it.
What’s Next for Riverhead & Our Town Centre
As town centres evolve, shops alone won’t be enough. People will be drawn not just by goods, but by meaning, experience, and belonging. Riverhead is part of that future: a place where meeting, creation, conversation and calm matter as much as quality coffee.
As Grimsby regenerates, we need more businesses like Riverhead—ones that anchor spaces emotionally, reputationally and socially. Nic is showing how a small business can influence big change.
